Goode Family Now on Comedy Central

Every Monday night at 10 PM, Comedy Central is re-running episodes of "The Goode Family," an animated show Howie and I wrote for. Watch it, will you?

I will!

Also, I have another funny R.O. Manse anecdote (the funny part may be arguable, but it's definitely an anecdote). My mother is a pianist and she was carrying her keyboard out to the car today to take it to a rehearsal. I heard her singing under her breath "I have a synthesizer" and it didn't take long until my brother joined in.

You've officially taken over my family.

Aw, that's awesome! What city is this going down in, might I ask?

My family resides in Houston but I go to school in Baton Rouge.

And if I may be presumptuous, if you might, I don't know, want to do a show in either of those cities (perhaps with Howard), I can guarantee you'd get an audience. My brother and I both go to separate music schools where we have shared R.O. Manse with our cohorts and they love it. So....maybe think about doing the road and coming down here.

That's so great to hear. I'm glad R.O. is making a dent, at least in one family. It has its own section at Waterloo records in Austin. It was a nice surprise to discover that.
I was actually in Houston last week. My brother lives there. I like it. I feel Texans unfairly malign Houston for some reason. Howie and I used to play at the old Laff Stop on Shepard and Gray a lot. Are there any kind of alternative comedy venues there? Seems like it's all about the Improv...

Ugh, no there aren't. I've been doing stand-up in Baton Rouge for about 6 months so I wanted to play some venues here over the break, and I was so disappointed with all of them. I think I went to every club in the past month and all I heard was dating-is-weird-airline-food-is-bad-traffic-sucks-black-people-are-different-than-white-people. It was really frustrating. I was amazed that audiences were actually laughing at that, because in Baton Rouge the audiences totally scoff at everything that's not at least marginally alternative.

I've seen stand-up at The Meridian which is an indie music venue in Houston, and that would probably be the best venue for alternative comedy, at least until Houstonians pull their heads out of their asses.

That's disappointing to hear. At least the guy who owned the Laff Stop used to bring offbeat people in. He was one of the first guys to book Mitch Hedberg. I did some comedy in Austin, and the scene is still fun there, as it was in the mid 90's.
